I am a Stott Pilates Certified instructor, and have also completed the YMCA CYQ L3, and the APPI l Level 1 Matwork course. I chose to become an instructor, as I injured myself on an asthanga yoga retreat. Having been a therapist since 1993, and an Adult Education Teacher since 2001, the obvious choice was to learn to rehab my back, through the power of Pilates as a rehab therapy, and would strongly recommend everyone to engage in Pilates exercise as a way to prevent back injuries.
Stott Pilates is a mind-body exercise based on the principles of Joseph Pilates incorporating modern anatomical knowledge from Physiotherapists and Sports scientists. The aim is optimal musculoskeletal performance, strength, flexibility and endurance, without risking injury or building bulk. The focus is on core stability, including pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization, neutral alignment and breathing. The Stott Pilates method of exercise also helps to restore the natural curves of the spine, and relieves tension, important goals if you are either a rehab client or an avid exerciser.
