Pilates is a fantastic way to exercise the whole body, it mobilises all of your joints and is suitable for every body no matter what age or physical ability and experience.

What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise regime that focuses on your deep postural muscles building internal strength and developing good postural alignment in an extremely effective way. The exercises build up slowly over time achieving great long term benefits in your internal shape and how you hold your body.

Classes offer a comprehensive programme of exercises for mat work. They have been adapted from the classical exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. Many of these classical exercises are initially not suitable for the average person and the average body, so have been broken down into gentle steps allowing everybody to gain the full benefits of Pilates and establish good movement skills whilst allowing progression towards the more advanced steps.

Body Control Pilates Association
Whilst there are many different styles of Pilates, Body Control Pilates stands out as a leading provider. At the Plymouth Pilates Practice we follow the Body Control Pilates Principles giving an effective exercise regime.

Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective and medically approved. It is of an holistic nature, being based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is awareness of your own body.

To be a member of the Body Control Pilates Association requires a strict adherence to their code of conduct and ongoing training each year. It is endorsed by the Register for Exercise Professionals so that members holding BCPA mat work certification are at the forefront of the national standard and are registered as Level 3 Pilates teachers.

At the Plymouth Pilates Practice we strive to enable every body, regardless of fitness level or age to achieve better body awareness and thus better movement. This can enable you to handle stress more effectively and relax more readily. With this in mind we continue to attend development workshops and are working towards gaining level 4 status with REPS.
