Seated Pilates/Gentle Exercise

Seated Pilates is an excellent alternative to floor based Mat Pilates. Enjoy many Pilates exercises from the comfort of a chair, including perfecting lateral breathing technique, mobilising and strengthening the joints, and building core strength. Standing balance work is also available. This class allows you to work around all the body joints so that you feel lengthened and energised. At times small equipment is used including resistance bands, soft balls, spikey balls and batons to add variety to the class.

PILATES

Having delivered high impact exercise for a number of years I found myself wanting something less stressful on my back and joints. I started to practice Pilates and found that it offered so many health benefits that I wanted to train and pass on the knowledge to others.

It is true that Pilates encourages optimal alignment of the body which is useful not only in class but in everyday life. Practicing the exercises can give you both a relaxing and energetic workout during the same session as you can alter the pace, breath pattern and range of movement. With such a vast range of exercises it is possible to provide an effective workout even if an individual has many health limitations.

I enjoy tailoring my classes to benefit my clients and this is one of the reasons why I developed my own version of seated pilates where I provide exercise for those wishing to remain seated either through choice or necessity.

I am keen to continue my own personal development and regularly take part in Pilates classes with other Teachers as well as formal training. I have recently completed courses in: Adapting Exercise for Older Adults, Pre and Post Natal Exercise, Falls Prevention, Childrens Exercise and Yoga. However, it is true to say that a great deal of learning takes place 'on the job'. This is where you start to understand new ailments and conditions and research how best to provide an effective exercise session to suit individual needs and expectations.
